After Thoughts from Global Issues lecture

This evening's lecture was about environmental issues that pertain to Global Issues and International Relations.  Dr. P mentioned how our meat consumption causes more emissions and environmental damage than automobile emissions.  I was honestly shocked. The average American eats about 2.2 lb's of meat a day.  The U.S. processes about 10 billion animals a year for food.  Dr. P said if we all decreased our meat consumption by about 20% its as if we switched from driving a Toyota Camry to a Toyota Prius.  Thats huge reduction in emissions right there. I'm amazed.

The topic of global warming reminds me of a lecture I attended by Dr. Sherwood Roland.  Dr. Roland is one of the three  Nobel Prize recipients from UCI.  He was awarded a Nobel for his work in atmospheric chemistry.
